We’re taking time this fall to root and re-orient ourselves in the way of our Rabbi, Jesus. We’ll reflect on the way and work of this people at The Parish, and how we might respond to Jesus’ invitations from Matthew 11: Come to Me, Walk with Me, Work with Me, Watch How I Do It.

Jesus demonstrates a life radically dependent on His Father and invites us to follow suit. “I only do what I see my Father doing,” he says. What if we took this example seriously? And how might we discern direction in the midst of daily life? This too, is part of Jesus’ invitation to work with him in cultivating a Kingdom-directed life.

Guiding Scriptures

John 5:13-20
“Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had disappeared in the crowd that was there. Later Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, ‘See, you have been made well! Do not sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you.’ The man went away and told the Jewish authorities that it was Jesus who had made him well. Therefore they started persecuting Jesus, because he was doing such things on the sabbath. But Jesus answered them, ‘My Father is still working, and I also am working.’… ‘Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise. The Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing.'”

Matthew 11:27-30
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
