What is AfterWords?
Yes, there’s a Parish blog, and it’s called AfterWords. This space, which lives on the church website, is where contributors reflect on their Sunday morning experiences. We write short essays or poems or pose questions for contemplation. Some of us draw, paint, or share photos.
We share our encounters with God in community, riffing on the sermon or The Prayers of the People or a line in a worship song. Or we muse about staring out the sanctuary window or an interaction with a fellow Parish-ioner. Or all the above.
What’s the purpose of AfterWords?
AfterWords is not about content creation or page clicks. It is meant to encourage folks to participate, if it brings joy, allowing them to share their unique voice and perspective. To shine light, one wrist-turn of the kaleidoscope at a time, on this little “House of Love,” as Jordan’s current church analogy goes.
What room would AfterWords be in this house? I imagine an attic—or maybe a sunlit studio. Or a fixed-up garden shed, framed by perennials.
Who reads AfterWords?
When I write: my mom, for sure. And Jordan. Okay, maybe a few others.
And our little community of AfterWords contributors—we try to encourage one another, letting our fellow participants know if something resonates. In fact, to kick off the new ministry year, there’s a meeting for AfterWords contributors—whether brand-new or seasoned— on Monday, August 18, at 7:30pm in the back room of The Cottage. There will be candles. And cookies.
And… ATTENTION: Parish-ioners… you can subscribe to have AfterWords posts delivered to your inbox. https://parish.community/blog/midsummer-afterwords-shalom-in-street-clothes/ (Utilize the “be notified by email” link at the top of each post.) You can also “celebrate” when you enjoy a post—or share a post with friends.
