Recurring Event Event Series: Shalom, Jesus, & Politics

Shalom, Jesus, & Politics

October 27 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

After Jesus’ resurrection, he appeared to his followers and breathed the breath of New Creation over them. “Peace be with you,” he said. But for most of us today, the human experience often feels lacking in peace and a restful breath of new spirit. Instead, we experience tensions within our personal relationships and within our country, as well as within our own bodies.

In the beginning, however, God created a world of Shalom—a world made for blessing and flourishing, a world made for wholeness. That original design is implanted deep within our bodies and souls, and we long for it. In Shalom, Jesus, and Politics, we will explore how Shalom is a constant, running theme within Scripture. As we journey through the story of Shalom, we will consider the design of Shalom in the first chapters of Genesis; the rejection of Shalom by the first humans and sometimes by us today; and Jesus’ invitation to restore Shalom through intimacy with his very self.

This 6-part class will include:
1. Creation of Shalom
2. Experience of Shalom
3. Rejection of Shalom
4. Mimicry of Shalom
5. New Creation of Shalom
6. New Experience of Shalom
